Hundreds of hours of business training on offer in North of Tyne region

Hundreds of hours of fully-funded business skills training are on offer to people in the North of Tyne area.

Organised by Northumberland-based enterprise and business support organisation, NBSL, and funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, the Better Business Skills programme has already been attended by more than 240 entrepreneurs and business owners, and is now open for registration for its autumn sessions.

The programme aims to improve business skills across the North of Tyne area, creating a stronger and more resilient business landscape, and helping people to improve their knowledge whether they own a business or are employed.

We’re offering half day workshops in subjects including marketing, management and branding to anyone aged 19 or over who lives in the North of Tyne area. It’s a flexible programme, so people can pick and choose the modules which suit them best. And it’s fully funded, meaning there’s absolutely no cost to people to join the programme.

People who have already benefited from the training included 23-year-old Anna Madderson, who set up her own confectionery company, Daisy’s Daily Delights, after graduating from university.

Anna said: “I started Daisy’s Daily Delights in 2020, instead of doing a Master’s degree. I love doing what I do; I’m in my element. But rewind to before I did the Better Business Skills course, and I was in a really low place. My confidence was gone and these courses gave it back.

“I’ve learnt so much and I’ve grown so much as a person. The biggest thing I want to get across is how much it changed me – I’ve found the love again for my business.”

As well as workshops in a range of topics, the Better Business Skills programme includes facilitated group coaching sessions with industry experts, allowing participants to meet up and share what they can put into action and give feedback to each other, with guidance available from experts to ensure they remain on the right path to success.

And workshops which support businesses to reduce carbon emissions are also available through the complementary toNETZERO training programme.

Better Business Skills is open to anyone aged over 19 who lives in the North of Tyne area and is suitable for anyone who wants to increase or refresh their understanding of a variety of business skills. Those who have already completed the programme include young entrepreneurs, sole traders and business owners ranging from yoga teachers to distillery owners and North East companies that supply services to global corporations.
